The Ruy Lopez is a powerful and aggressive opening that has been used by many top-level players throughout history, including Garry Kasparov, Bobby Fischer, and Anatoly Karpov. It is named after the Spanish bishop Ruy López de Segura, who wrote one of the first chess books in the 16th century
